It’s impossible to avoid mood swings full time, unless you’re fully alert around the clock and ready to dodge any situation, person or conversation that might even slightly trigger a blue mood - honestly easier said than done.
Although prevention is a better cure for this one, I have some very helpful tips for the day you find yourself pulled into negativity.
Here are my top 5 (very gentle) ways to see the light again...
BECOME EXTREMELY PRESENT
Although you probably didn't choose to be in your negative mindset… you might be choosing to stay in it. Negative energy likes to feed on more negative energy. This manifests as complaining, speaking in a negative tone and reacting. These are all methods to actually increase the negative experience that you're having, like an entity that's growing.
My number #1 tip to pull yourself out of this negative cycle is to fiercely choose the present moment. Become totally focused on the now - whatever that looks like for you and just relax into it, surrender to it as opposed to resisting it.
Your negative emotions are feeding on the past and the future. The mind cannot feed on negativity if you stay in the moment - because there's never conflict in the present moment, just a happy happening to be observed and not absorbed. If you can rally yourself to stay present you'll get the beautiful pleasure of watching your negative mood quickly flip to a pleasant one.
RETHINK THE NEGATIVE STORY YOU ARE TELLING YOURSELF – IS IT TRUE?
A negative mood always begins with a negative story that you are telling yourself. You are taking a negative thought and accepting it as an absolute truth - this can be dangerous as often the thought that you are accepting has nothing to do with reality. It could be a conflict that happened days ago that you’re still brewing over or a scenario that hasn't even happened yet, but as with all future based thoughts, it’s possible - right?
This is an unconscious way to operate and strips the magic out of your precious life.
The mind will do anything to get your attention, including constructing half truths. When you notice the story begin to repeat itself or even add some new enticing ‘insights’ to your predicament, stop yourself.
Even if you feel completely justified in being angry, resentful or upset, nothing is worth your peace.
Open your heart to new possibilities and welcome positive thoughts, notice the negative ones and allow them to pass through without any attachment.
EAT NOURISHING FOOD
Don't wait to feel better, focus your attention on having a large glass of filtered water, some fresh fruit or a salad. Give your body and brain its best chance of recovery with nature's goodness in your belly. Your brain deserves the absolute premium fuel, you’re worth it!
“Think about it. Your brain is always “on.” It takes care of your thoughts and movements, your breathing and heartbeat, your senses — it works hard 24/7, even while you’re asleep. This means your brain requires a constant supply of fuel. That “fuel” comes from the foods you eat — and what’s in that fuel makes all the difference. Put simply, what you eat directly affects the structure and function of your brain and, ultimately, your mood.” - Eva Selhub MD, Contributing Editor of the Havard health blog.
GET IN SALTY WATER
Immersing yourself in a body of water (ideally salty) can give you the exact emotional cleanse you’ve been searching for! Salty water is known to cleanse the aura and can help transmute stagnant energy that doesn't serve you any longer. Aside from that, a good refreshing swim in the beautiful ocean is just a great way to shift any perspective, by grounding in nature and invigorating the senses in the refreshing cold water.
SURROUND YOURSELF WITH HIGH BEINGS
Listen to podcasts, Youtube or read a book from a high being with a positive perspective.
The people that you surround yourself with plays a huge role in how you’re feeling and thinking. Aside from being selective with your friendship groups - spend time with the greatest thinkers, energy healers and most inspiring people that you have access too! We are so lucky that all we have to do is open a book or jump on youtube to watch a really profound lecture or podcast, this will instantly work its magic on you by shifting your perspective to a really powerful and inspiring one.
